EastEuro Link hosted its third annual forum on CEE Consumer, Retail and Food and Beverage in Prague on 30th May 2008.

The panel of expert speakers examined in detail key markets around CEE region, highlighting ever changing consumer demands and trends. Featuring international keynotes and leading experts addressing the most topical and strategic issues, the forum included extensive presentations and in-depth analysis of some of the key issues facing the industry.

 
Mrs. Charlotte Stausholm, Chairman, Brabo Ventures introduced the conference and chaired the event excellently throughout the day. She provided insightful foreword into the topics to be discussed. This was followed by presentation of Mr. Miroslav Koberna, Director of Federation of Food and Drink Industries of the Czech Republic who gave an overview of regional trends and growth prospects, focusing on the growth barriers and limitations from the aspect of the Czech Food and Drink producers. Mrs. Charlotte Stausholm then presented some remarkable ideas on how to bridge the knowledge gap between entrepreneurs and investors, provoking live discussion among the participants.


 

After a networking coffee break, Mrs. Vedrana Jelusic-Kasic, Senior Banker of Agribusiness of EBRD spoke about EBRD financing and support of entire food chain, presenting this organisation as the largest single lender and private equity investor in the region. She also gave an overview of the selected agribusiness transactions in the region.

This was followed by two outstanding presentations on the consumer trends in the region by Mr. Zdenek Skala, Retail Research Director of INCOMA Research and Mr. Tomas Krasny, Managing Director CEE of GfK Austria.

 
Following a lively lunch break where delegates had the opportunity to network and continue discussion, Professor Bernd Hallier, Managing director of European Retail Institute started the session on the CEE Retail Landscape dynamically presenting the drivers of the globalising retail. Mr. Pavel Klimes, General Manager of Euro Mall Centre Management then spoke about the effect of shopping centre gallery on hypermarket and to conclude this panel Mr. Stepan Kincl, Research Analyst of Euromonitor International presented some key trends and developments as well as the future outlook for the CEE Food and Beverage markets – 2007-2012.
 

To close the conference Mrs. Karen Hamann, Managing Director of the Institute of the Food Studies and Agroindustrial Development – IFAU – gave a closer look to the future, speaking about emerging technologies in the food sector, key drivers, potentials and opportunities that food industry offers for emerging technologies.

The event brought together a number of influential players in the industry to engage in numerous discussions and listen to some excellent insights into the field.
