29th January 2007. EastEuro Link hosted its 2nd Agriculture Conference for Central and Southeast Europe, this year focusing Food and Beverage Industry in the region. The conference took place in The Regent Esplanade Zagreb Hotel in Croatia, bringing together high level government officials from several regional countries and key industry players of this industry sector.

H.E. Minister Petar Cobankovic, Minister, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Managment, welcome addressed the participants on behalf of the Croatian Government wishing them successful conference involvement, good business contacts and pleasant stay in Croatia. He found the conference very important for regional integration improvement, for making new business relations as well as for the speeding up of the transition process in this region.
“I consider knowledge and experience exchange very important especially on technology field, quality control field and food safety as well as food for animals, such as cooperation between Croatia and regional countries regarding agriculture legislation.” – said Mr. Cobankovic. |

H.E. Aco Spasenoski, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Supply of Macedonia and H.E. Jemin Gjana, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Consumer Protection, Albania gave overview of the situation in their countries pointing out the importance of the agricultural sector for the national economies and the increasing competitiveness.
The conference attendees had a chance also to hear from the experts of the governments of Croatia, Slovak Republic, Czech Republic, Hungary and Romania.

Ball Packaging Europe’s strategic investment in the Balkan Region and Glass packaging in the context of the food and beverage industry in Central and Southeast Europe were the topics examined within the panel about the packaging strategies as the crucial component for company’s success.
Quality management issues were also included in the conference agenda discussing the application of HACCP and ISO 22000 systems to the production line of food and beverage. IFC – World Bank Group presented ISTR programme which is providing technical assistance to individual companies in the Agribusiness Sector, through the entire process of preparation for and implementation of standards/certificates. The conference participants could also hear about the benefits of HACCP from QA Manager of Efes Serbia, Ms. Ivana Markovic.

Dr. Isaac Sheps, CEO of Carlsberg Serbia and Chairman of the Board of Carlsberg Bulgaria, successfully chaired the conference but also gave very interesting presentation on creating efficient sales and marketing strategies. |

Zagreb was the meeting point of the regional food and beverage industry leaders on 29th January 2007. The list of the participating companies is impressive. The new business prospects are emerging from this summit. CSEE Food and beverage industry is expected to develop towards the regional integration.
