From 1994 to 1997, she worked as a project coordinator in The Institute for Food Studies & Agroindustrial Development (IFAU) carrying out research on the global food industry and agribusiness. Main focus in most of the projects was market intelligence and market development, the international competitiveness of the food and agroindustries, and trends in consumer behaviour and product innovation in a pan-European perspective.
Since 1998, she has been the managing director of IFAU. She has continuously developed a personal network to organisations, authorities and companies all over Europe. In the last 5 years Karen has contributed to research projects on several food sub-sectors, and has worked with market development issues across Europe, with special attention to agriculture, food and food marketing in East Europe.
IFAU was founded in 1982 as an independent private research organisation. Research is conducted globally and mostly provides knowledge about marketing, innovation, company growth and the competitive situation in all sub-sectors of international food industry and agribusiness.
